Winterlude

Experience the winter festival from Gatineau

Winterlude is the region’s great winter gathering. Every year in January and February, Ottawa and Gatineau transform into an open-air playground: ice sculptures, tube slides, an illuminated Ferris wheel, shows and entertainment of all kinds — the majority of activities are free. Hotel V is 15 minutes from both official festival sites. Enjoy everything without fighting for parking and without a long trip home in the cold.

The festival at two sites

Le Domaine des flocons, Parc Jacques-Cartier, Gatineau

Winterlude’s Gatineau site, at the north end of Parc Jacques-Cartier. This is where the festival’s family energy is concentrated: tube slides, snow sculptures, an illuminated Ferris wheel, acoustic shows, obstacle courses and games for all ages. Evenings are particularly lively — the illuminated Ferris wheel offers a sweeping view of the snowy region at dusk.

Confederation Park, Ottawa

Ottawa’s site, steps from Parliament Hill. Ice sculptures presented by Tim Hortons, Lantern Grove, a sugar shack village and a varied cultural lineup. Pair it with a skate on the Rideau Canal, which transforms into a natural skating rink every winter.

Our favourite highlights

Ice sculptures

Ephemeral works carved by artists from all over. The kind of thing you don’t see anywhere else, and which alone justifies the trip.

The illuminated Ferris wheel

A free, unique festival attraction at Le Domaine des flocons. The view over the snowy region in the evening is worth the detour.

Igloofête

A free family event at Place des Festivals Zibi, around Valentine’s Day. Music, entertainment and a festive atmosphere for all ages.

The Rideau Canal skating rink

In Ottawa, stretching nearly 8 km, it’s one of Canada’s most iconic winter experiences. Skate rentals available on-site.

Why stay at Hotel V during Winterlude

The logistics of a winter festival are often what ruins the day. No parking, packed shuttles, a long cold trip home. From Hotel V, you’re 15 minutes from both sites, parking is free and the Bus-O-Neige shuttle departs steps away. When you get back at the end of the day, the Nordic baths and sauna are waiting — included with every stay, no reservation needed. That’s the difference.
